We all want students to grow up healthy and with a sense of wellness. However, we also know that life can be challenging and stressful at times. If someone has a hard time coping with stress, it may play a role in their use of drugs or alcohol. Teaching students healthy coping strategies can help them when dealing with challenging circumstances and events.
Learning to reflect on their feelings and manage them develops resilience to overcome stress and anxiety. Developing strong connections to healthy adults and to school also increases the likelihood of making healthy decisions. BISD has systematic efforts to help students develop the skills necessary, as well as, identify and support students who may require interventions. Some of the strategies utilized are:
