
Freeport Intermediate students participated in the first stage of the Scripts Spelling Bee, a national spelling competition.
For the second consecutive year, Nason Goins, 8th grader, proved to be FIS' top speller. Jose Cruz, also an 8th grader, earned the distinction of runner-up in this year's competition.
Goins will now move on to the district-level bee, where he will compete with other winners from Clute and Lake Jackson Intermediate schools.
